If there has been one thing over my career in real estate that has rang true with our every changing industry, it is what I like to call “The Opposite”. 

When the industry zigs….I zag.

Just one example of many:  I was flying around the country in 2006 talking to banks about listing their REO’s long before most markets were still on the upswing.

That’s why George Costanza from the TV show Seinfeld is my hero.

In one of the more famous episodes of the show, George was once again fed up and at his wits end ((which was typically his complaint)).

As he and Jerry Seinfeld were pontificating, they concluded that if everything George was currently doing left him filled with regret and boredom every day, then if he just did the opposite, then things would turn around.

So this beautiful woman walked into the diner and the old George would have looked away, not had any eye contact, acted intimidated, and had no courage to talk to this lovely woman.

So what did the new George decide to do?

The Opposite.

He walks up to the womankind delivers one of the best pickup lines in history.

“Hi, my name is George. I’m unemployed, and I live with my parents.”

And the woman response was…. “I’m Victoria, Hi”

And so it goes.

When everyone else is mailing it in during the holidaze….. Do the opposite.

When agents are driving buyers around all hours of the day hoping to put in an offer on an overpriced listing…. Do the opposite.

When agents are hoping for referrals and their database to build their listing business…. Do the opposite.

It worked for me, it worked for George, and it will work for you.

This is how we go against the grain and get the results everyone else is just hoping for.
